Just For Laughs Tips
Take some time each day and play with some just for laughs tips. Laughter and play (it’s not just for kids) are important, if you want to promote emotional wellness and live with a more positive attitude.
Now you might be thinking, “But I’m already too busy, to add something else to my day.” It’s often more about how we do, what we’re already doing, rather than adding more things to do. Adding laughter and a playful, positive attitude to your everyday activities doesn’t have to be hard work.
A playful smile and fake laughter are some basic tools, but there is a lot more you can add to your "just for laughs" tool kit. Check out the laughter tips page
daily laughs
for ideas to brighten up your day. Some of these do-it-yourself laughter therapy ideas are quick, on the spot tips, for creating a more positive attitude. Some of the tips take a bit more time, but have long lasting results.
Let’s not forget about play! Play is not just for kids. Anything is play that we do for pure enjoyment not just as a means to an end. I also believe when we play, we don’t keep score – why would we, we’re having such a good time.
Try some “do-it-yourself” laughter therapy. Add a playful smile,
fake laugh
to a simple activity, such as washing the dishes, doing the laundry, going through the car wash (a great place to do fake laughter – no one can hear you). Warning-- this fake laugh might become a real laugh, if you don’t watch out! Want a more positive attitude and greater self-confidence regardless of what you’re doing? Add a little laughter.> When I sit down to write at my computer if I do a little “just for laughs” laughter warm-up, at the beginning and periodically as I’m writing, I find this do-it-yourself laughter therapy promotes writing that is more creative and flows more naturally. More interesting ideas and creative options just naturally come to us, when we aren’t so serious about “getting the task done”.
I often do fake laughter while in my car and stopped at stop signs. Sometimes people notice in a friendly way and I return a warm smile. Maybe they think I’m weird, maybe they think, “Boy, she’s really having a good day. I’d like to have one of those too.” Actually who knows what anyone is thinking. The important thing is I’m “planting laughter seeds” that will influence my whole day in a positive way.>

However, use some judgment about where and when to use fake laughter. Fake laughter usually works best alone or with others who understand what you’re doing, or in places where people are laughing or being playful. I would probably enjoy laughing with the veggies at the food co-op (veggies have a great sense of humor) but realize this might look a bit crazy. So, I reserve my veggie laughter for the home front. But, I often have a just for laughs, playful smile on my face, when grocery shopping, as though I am going to create a fabulous meal for someone special (and since I am special, this is true)
Laughter Benefits
Your emotional wellness and positive attitude are priceless and worth feeling a bit silly for. Laughter has many benefits, including strengthening the immune system and cleansing the body/mind of negative energy to promote emotional wellness. It’s kind of like taking an energy bubble bath or shower – we feel so refreshed afterwards. Laughter, or even a simple smile, get our endorphins (our happy hormones) flowing, which makes for an experience of emotional wellness, a more positive attitude and also helps reduce physical pain . Add a little laughter and your body will thank you. When I’m working at my computer, or doing other activities, that may create tension in the body, such as standing and washing dishes, I add laughter, and my body (and my attitude) doesn’t get as tight, because the laughter loosens up my neck and shoulders.

Just for Laughs – A Poem/Invitation
Just laugh… because life has so much pain. Just laugh… because haven’t we cried enough? Just laugh… because it will help the unshed tears to flow. Just laugh… because we have a child within us longing to teach us joy. Just laugh…because we deserve to know our joy. Just laugh…because haven’t we been much too serious, for too long. Just laugh…because life is too important to be taken so seriously. Just for laughs…because in our joy we’ll find our way. --Spruce
